wc hunt Oct 29 - the best day

I left Liza at home, she almost doesn't limp, but let her heal.

I took Ivy and Luna to Rob's place.
We moved 9 birds in about 1.5 hours and it was the best day this season.
Luna pointed well and Ivy pointed few birds.
I got 5.

Ivy fetched one bird that I thought I missed. She is really my best retriever!!!

Luna worked very hard and well. She stayed in contact most of the time, so she didn't go off for a while like before. She ran almost 10 km.
Her GPS collar loses contact with the Astro receiver, have to figure out what to do about it.
This is old orange collar.

wc train Oct 27, Liza limping, lameness

Kirby park morning
wet snow on vegetation

Found 3 wc between Luna and Ivy

Liza was home with lameness in front left leg which started Thursday evening after hunting
I don't see any open injures, ROM is normal, she barely puts any weight on it after lying down, but after a few steps, she seems to run better on it.
Today, Sunday, 3-d day after the start of lameness, she seems to be a bit better.
I walked her on leash twice today.

wc hunt Oct 25

Tiny Marsh, first time this year.
First I walked country forest, one grouse flushed, no point, so I didn't shoot.
Saw some fresh back scrapes.

Liza pointed wc within a minute and close to the back parking lot.
I don't know if the bird flushed or Liza moved, while I was figuring out how to get there.
I missed with the first shot, but hit it with the second. The bird dropped, Liza quickly found it, picked up and I started calling her and even zapped her with e-c on 3 (sportdog). She cam to me very happy and dropped the bird in 2 m from me. I quickly grabbed it, so she didn't rip it. I let her sniff.

Luna had a nice point, but the bird flushed and I missed.

No birds in Holland Marsh, but one flush (no point) in the old gun club.
They demolish the old farm house and there's lots of ATV tracks in the back.

WC train Oct 21

ran dogs in the park on Kirby
moved 8 birds, Luna had 3 solid points.
I saw today what Liza does.
Luna was on point, Liza comes, I tell her to sit, but when she saw Luna on point, she just runs in!!!!

The second occurrence was a bit in a distance, but I am pretty sure, this happened again.

Ivy pointed relocated bird and Liza stopped honoring her, but then Ivy moved in, I think it was jealousy.

I need to run them alone!!!

WC hunt OCt 20

Rob's place.
no birds the only wc was bumped by the dogs in the island (Liza?) flew over my head, I shot twice and missed. I saw where it landed, so I went there and called Liza. She POINTED for the first time this season or at least from what I saw. The bird flushed and I shot it в угон. I went to pick it up, Liza found it and I took it before she started mouthing it, I let her smell it from my hand.

I also shot a very slowly moving rabbit. I should NOT do it again.
I think Ivy was pointing him and he starting walking away. Close shot, under 10 m and it pulverized his intestines.

In the afternoon Anna and I took the dogs to the park (new trail in our subd) Luna move 3-4 birds.
She pointed for some time (by GPS).

wc hunt, train Oct 17, 16

Hunted Rob's place. Moved 6 birds. Luna had 2 nice points. I missed.
I bumped 2 birds and Liza moved 2, no points.

I zapped Luna a few times and she started working slightly closer, she's been running pretty far (60-80 m) and out of contact for few minutes.

Yesterday, I ran the dogs in the park, I think we moved close to 10 birds, one point from Luna.

Dogs' work is atrocious so far.

WC hunt Oct 13, train Oct 14

Hunted Rob's place. Luna pointed one, Ivy pointed one and I bumped 2, shot one of them, small skinny male. One flew from the island in the field, may be Luna bumped.

Liza runs around like crazy, bumps and barks at birds.
Luna is ranging too far. Astro batteries died and it was hard to hunt with her.

I wounded 2 ducks at Bixby farm. Took all 3 dogs and brought them to search.
Ivy searched very nicely swimmig all around the pond.
Luna swam, Liza stuck to shore.
I think Luna found the duck and let Liza play with it, but the time I realized they were quiet and went through the bushes. the duck had no skin on the breast. Luna doesn't retrieve when I start yelling and Liza is OUT OF CONTROL, I must train her HOLD and FETCH!!!

Sunday.
Ran the dogs in the park (Kirby), Liza pointed one I think at least for a bit.
She ran and barked at 3-4 more.

WC hunt Oct 8

Hunted Robert's place in the morning
9 C
wet after rain, cloudy

I saw 2 wc and didn't get in time to 2 Luna's points, may be it was wc too.
Liza barked twice, may be rabbit.

The day before I walked the park at Crosby, 9 wc in 1.5 hours.
One solid point from Luna.

This year everything is very overgrown, dense, the dogs run like crazy, esp Liza.
Ivy is slow and low energy.

WC on morning walks - Oct 1 2018

The dogs bumps wc on morning walks (around the start of the new paved trail).
Today I saw 2 - one by Liza and one by Luna. May be there were more.
I didn't see points.
Few days ago Liza bumped one and another day another one.

We went to Rob's place 2 days ago (opened the season).
Astro showed points, but I didn't see any birds. The bush is very thick, hard to move and it was very wet. So we got nothing. Liza also barked (laut) may be it was rabbit, may be wc, who knows...?

Apr 28 2018 - NA training

Luther with Grand River chapter
3 C
wet  cold windy, wet ground, water everywhere

Liza pointed 2 pigeons in launchers perfectly, I had bag with 3 chukars for scent at the first launcher,
after chasing the pigeon (fired blanks) she came back and pointed the chukars, so we release spare pigeon, she chased and I didn't let her come back to the chukars again.
I skipped the third luancher
Very good work.
She doesn't swim.
I threw dead chukar for her and she picked it up and I reeled her in with CC.

wc train April 5 and one more

few days ago we had couple points by Luna at Robert's place

Apr 5
evening walk
Liza bumped couple birds while Luna was working the scent
then they both pointed the same bird, Luna first, then Liza,
May be Liza slowed down because she saw Luna, but she pointed independently I think.
There was one more bird, don't recall what happened.

30 March wc training

Kirby park
4 pm
3 C medium strong breeze
partly cloudy
no snow

This spring is late, snow is long gone, but it was pretty cold, frozen ground, northern winds
today we saw the first woodcock. One bird was flushed by Luna on the morning walk and then we had 4 finds in the afternoon in Kirby park. All three dogs had points and then either Luna or Liza bumped the 4-th bird. Liza had a nice point in the poplar bush, I think it was easy find for her, the wind was in her face, nevertheless she pointed nicely and was staunch.
